Biography
Xuan Liu was born in Tianjin, China and later became one of Canada’s best known poker players. She studied at the University of Waterloo and emerged during a period when live poker was expanding globally through EPT, PCA, WSOP and online poker coverage.
Her first major international breakout came in 2011 at EPT Sanremo, where she finished third for more than half a million dollars. That result put her on the radar as one of the most promising new faces in tournament poker.
Liu followed that with another huge performance at the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event, finishing fourth for $600,000. That run made her the only woman to reach the final table of the PCA Main Event, a major milestone in one of the most prestigious live events of the era.
Over the years, Liu has moved between live tournaments, high stakes cash games, poker content and ambassador roles. She has represented brands including 888poker, Natural8 and WPT Global, and has built a strong following through social media, streaming and video content.
In 2025, Liu recorded the biggest win of her career at Triton Montenegro. She won the $25,000 WPT Global Slam for $860,000 and became the first woman to win a Triton Poker title. It was both a personal career high and a historically important result.
Trivia
Born in Tianjin, China, and known in Chinese as 刘璇. Xuan moved to Toronto, Ontario in Canada, the country she now represents on the global stage. She developed her analytical foundation while studying at the University of Waterloo before translating those skills to the virtual felt under the well-known digital alias xxl23.
Liu first commanded mainstream attention with a pair of massive breakout scores in intense international fields, securing a third-place finish at EPT Sanremo in 2011 and following it up with a fourth-place finish at the PCA Main Event in 2012.
However, her most historic milestone came in 2025 in Montenegro, where she shattered barriers by becoming the first woman ever to capture a Triton Poker title, winning the grueling $25,000 WPT Global Slam.
Rather than operating strictly as a tournament specialist, Liu’s poker image bridges live tournament experience, cash game fluency, and poker media work, giving her one of the most diverse and versatile public profiles among Canadian poker players.
Her strongest career moments have consistently come in high-pressure live settings. Her landmark Triton victory further highlighted a remarkable capacity to adapt to elite, modern high-roller fields, environments where cutting-edge technical skill, fearlessness, and total emotional control are absolute requirements.
