Biography

Luc Greenwood was born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1988. He is part of one of poker’s most successful families, alongside his twin brother Sam Greenwood and older brother Max Greenwood.

While Sam is the most famous of the three in the global high roller scene, Luc has built a strong tournament résumé of his own. His results include major wins at PokerStars Championship Bahamas, Australian Poker Open and Triton Poker Series.

Luc’s first major live headline win came in 2017, when he won the $25,750 No Limit Hold’em High Roller at PokerStars Championship Bahamas for $779,268. That result established him as more than just “Sam Greenwood’s brother” and put him firmly into the high roller conversation.

In 2020, he added another major title at the Australian Poker Open, winning a A$50,000 No Limit Hold’em event for a prize worth $483,000. Then in 2023, he achieved the biggest cash of his career by winning the $25,000 GGMillion$ Live event at Triton London for $897,000.

That Triton victory was especially meaningful because Sam Greenwood had already won on the Triton circuit. With Luc’s London win, the Greenwood twins became the first pair of brothers to each win Triton titles.

Trivia

Often listed on official tournament rosters as Lucas Greenwood, Luc is the twin brother of fellow high-stakes phenom Sam Greenwood and the brother of Max Greenwood, who originally put the family on the poker map with a WSOP bracelet win in 2008. Together, the Greenwoods have solidified their reputation as one of the most successful and formidable poker families in Canadian history.

Luc and Sam even carved out a unique piece of poker trivia by becoming the first set of brothers to each capture a Triton Poker title. Luc secured his historic Triton victory in London in 2023, navigating a highly competitive field to lock up a first-place finish along with a career-best score of $897,000.

Long before his breakthrough on the Triton circuit, Greenwood had proven his capacity to outlast world-class competition on the global stage. He first made major waves internationally in 2017 by taking down a high-stakes Bahamas high roller event for nearly $800,000, and he followed that up a few years later by capturing a trophy at the Australian Poker Open in 2020.
