- Poker Review FAQ
Choosing the right poker site can be the difference between a great session and a frustrating one, and in Canada the decision is more complicated than it looks. Every provincial line matters: a room that's fully regulated in Ontario might be off-limits somewhere else, and a "top-rated" international site can still be the wrong pick if it doesn't take your province at all.
That's why we test every room ourselves. We register real accounts, deposit real money, play real hands across cash games and tournaments, and only then write a verdict. No poker site pays to be listed here, and no operator sees a review before it's published.
Below you'll find our top-rated poker rooms with a full numeric verdict, plus a growing library of in-depth reviews covering crypto rooms, established global brands and newer arrivals. Every review links out to the full write-up so you can dig into the games, banking, software and promo details before you sign up.
If you want the ranked comparison rather than individual verdicts, start with our Canadian poker sites guide. For province-specific availability, use our poker by province directory.
How We Test and Rate Every Poker Site
Every review on this page is built from the same weighted scorecard, so a 9/10 room and a 7/10 room can genuinely be compared side by side.
| Criterion | Weight | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Game Variety & Traffic | 25% | Texas Hold'em, Omaha, fast-fold formats, Sit & Go's and multi-table tournaments, plus real player counts during peak hours |
| Bonuses & Promotions | 20% | Welcome offers, rakeback deals, ongoing promotions, real playthrough value and eligibility rules |
| Software & User Experience | 15% | Desktop and mobile speed, reliability, ease of navigation and multi-tabling |
| Banking & Payout Speed | 15% | Deposit and withdrawal options including Interac, cards, e-wallets and crypto, plus real transaction times |
| Security & Fair Play | 15% | Licensing, RNG certification, track record and responsible gambling tools |
| Competition Level & Player Pool | 10% | How tough the games are relative to the stakes, and how many recreational players are in the pool |
We test from multiple provinces, not just one. That matters in Canada, where availability and even the player pool can change depending on whether you're logging in from Ontario or anywhere else.
Top-Rated Poker Rooms - Full Verdict
These three rooms are the only ones on this page with a completed, scored verdict from our full testing process. Every other room below has a full written review, but hasn't yet been through the complete scorecard.
| Poker Room | Best For | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| GGPoker | Tournament grinders and high-stakes multi-table action | 9.5/10 |
| WPT Global | Casual and low-to-mid stakes players chasing WPT satellite seats | 9.0/10 |
| Stake Poker | Crypto players who want fast, high-stakes cash games | 7.5/10 |
GGPoker is home to the WSOP Online Series and consistently runs some of the biggest multi-table tournament fields available to Canadian players, with prize pools that regularly run into the millions. Ontario players reach it through the AGCO-regulated WSOP.ca and GGPoker.ca, while players in the rest of Canada use the international GGPoker.com platform.
Features like Smart HUD and staking tools set it apart from most competitors, and it's a strong pick whether you're grinding MTTs or looking for serious cash-game volume.
Read our full GGPoker review for the complete breakdown of games, bonuses and banking.
WPT Global earns its spot as the best option for players who want softer fields without giving up a real path to live poker. Its online satellites feed directly into World Poker Tour events, and the site leans beginner-friendly with a clean interface and a large recreational player base.
WPT Global currently excludes players located in Alberta, New Brunswick and Ontario under its Terms & Conditions. Players in other provinces should check WPT Global's latest eligibility rules before registering.

Stake Poker is the pick for players already comfortable with crypto banking. Deposits and withdrawals move quickly in Bitcoin, Ethereum and other supported coins, and there's no lengthy verification process standing between you and the tables.
It's still a newer product, which is reflected in its 7.5/10 score, and it isn't available to players physically located in Ontario.

More Reviewed Poker Rooms
We've tested and written full reviews for even more rooms. These haven't been through our complete numeric scorecard yet, so we're not assigning a star rating here, but each review below covers games, banking, bonuses and provincial availability in full.
Crypto and Blockchain Poker Rooms
CoinPoker runs on its own blockchain-based chips, with provably fair games, low rake and fast crypto withdrawals. It's accessible Canada-wide, including Ontario, though it operates there without an Ontario iGaming licence.

BCPoker is a newer crypto-first room built for players outside Ontario who want soft PLO5 and No-Limit Hold'em fields alongside real rakeback. It isn't available to Ontario residents.

BasePoker combines browser-based play with a crypto cashier and a private tournament builder, aimed at players who want flexibility to set up their own events alongside the regular schedule.

Established International Brands
PokerStars remains one of the deepest tournament schedules available to Canadian players anywhere online. Ontario residents play on the AGCO-regulated PokerStars.ca, which runs the Ontario-exclusive ONCOOP alongside the wider schedule, while players in every other province access the global PokerStars.com platform and its full SCOOP, WCOOP and MicroMillions calendar.

888poker is licensed for Ontario players through 888poker.ca under an AGCO licence, with the rest of Canada served through its broader international platform. It leans toward casual and mid-stakes tournament players and runs one of the more structured freeroll programs in the market.

ACR Poker, still known to many longtime players as Americas Cardroom, anchors the Winning Poker Network with strong overall liquidity, a tournament calendar built around its headline Venom event, and flexible banking that leans heavily toward crypto.

Provincial Availability at a Glance

Why Trust Our Poker Reviews?
Every review on this page comes from real accounts, real deposits and real play across cash games and tournaments, tested from multiple provinces rather than a single location. No poker room pays for placement or a better score, and every verdict reflects both what a site does well and where it falls short.
We update reviews when something material changes, whether that's a new promo code, a licensing change, or a shift in provincial availability. If you spot something on a review page that looks out of date, our team checks and corrects it.
Responsible Gambling
Poker should stay entertainment, not a source of financial stress. Most reviewed rooms offer account-level tools including deposit limits, session reminders, cool-off periods and self-exclusion, usually available directly in account settings.
If poker is affecting your finances, relationships or wellbeing, help is available. Ontario residents can reach ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600, available 24/7. Outside Ontario, provincial problem gambling helplines are listed through the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction.
Set limits before you play, not after a losing session, and treat any bonus offer as a reason to read the terms, not a reason to chase losses. You can find more in our Responsible Gambling in Canada guide.
Poker Review FAQ
- What criteria do you use to review poker sites?
We score every room against six weighted categories: game variety and traffic, bonuses and promotions, software and user experience, banking and payout speed, security and fair play, and the overall competition level in the player pool.
- Do your reviews cover mobile poker apps?
Yes. Every review looks at mobile compatibility, including whether the room offers a dedicated app or a mobile-optimized site, and how the mobile experience compares to desktop.
- Are some poker sites better for beginners?
Yes. Rooms like WPT Global are singled out for softer, more beginner-friendly fields, while GGPoker offers the deepest overall product for players who want to grow into tougher tournaments over time.
- Why don't all reviewed rooms have a star rating?
Only GGPoker, WPT Global and Stake Poker have completed our full scored verdict so far. The other rooms on this page have complete written reviews covering games, bonuses and banking, but haven't been through the full scorecard yet, so we don't assign a number until that testing is finished.
- Can Ontario players use every room on this list?
No. Only GGPoker, PokerStars and 888poker currently offer AGCO-regulated products for Ontario. WPT Global, Stake Poker and BCPoker are not available to Ontario residents at all. Check the availability table above before registering.
- How often are these reviews updated?
We revisit reviews whenever something material changes, including new promo codes, licensing updates or shifts in provincial availability, rather than on a fixed schedule.
- Where can I find current bonus codes for these rooms?
Each individual review lists the current promo code and bonus terms for that room. For a full list across every operator we cover, see our poker promo codes page.
