    What Is the WSOP?

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is the most prestigious poker tournament series on the planet. Every year top players, dreamers and runner ups gather for a six-week summer spectacle in Las Vegas battling for glory and millions of dollars.

WSOP culminates in the $10,000 Main Event, where the winner takes home a life-changing first prize. A WSOP gold bracelet is poker's equivalent of an Olympic gold medal that every serious live poker player dreams of winning.

The WSOP has been the stage for some of the most dramatic moments in sports history. This is the festival where amateurs crack the pros, legends cement their legacies and no-names become overnight millionaires.

    WSOP 2026 Main Event

The WSOP 2026 Main Event is the most famous and prestigious tournament in poker, standing as the centerpiece of the summer series in Las Vegas.

With a $10,000 buy-in, world championship status, and the potential for a life-changing payout, it attracts everyone from top pros to online qualifiers and first-time dreamers.

For Canadian players, the Main Event is the ultimate target because there are several ways to qualify online without paying the full buy-in upfront.

Hosted at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas, the 2026 Main Event is again expected to draw one of the biggest fields in live poker and remain the defining event of the entire WSOP.

    What’s New in 2026

One of the biggest additions is a Las Vegas Circuit stop at Horseshoe Las Vegas from July 14 to 25, which keeps the action going even as the summer bracelet series winds down. For players who make the trip to Vegas and want more tournament options after busting a major event, that adds real value.
    • Summer Circuit stop at Horseshoe Las Vegas, July 14–25
    • More live events late in the summer
    • Added value for players staying in Vegas after busting major events

Another standout change is the arrival of Event #11, the $10,000 GGMillion$ High Roller. It gives the 2026 schedule a modern feel by bringing one of online poker’s most recognizable brands into the live WSOP lineup. It also adds another prestige event for high-stakes players chasing a bracelet.
    • New Event #11: $10,000 GGMillion$ High Roller
    • A major addition to the high-stakes calendar
    • A stronger crossover between online poker and the live WSOP

The overall schedule also shows a clear push toward more variety. Alongside traditional hold’em events, players will find newer bounty formats, more mixed-game options, and specialty tournaments such as Mini Mystery Millions, Five Card PLO, Pick Your PLO, and T.O.R.S.E.
    • More bounty-style tournaments
    • Expanded mixed-game offerings
    • New specialty formats including Mini Mystery Millions, Five Card PLO, Pick Your PLO, and T.O.R.S.E.

How Canadian Players Can Qualify for WSOP 2026

Canadian players can qualify for WSOP 2026 without paying the full buy-in upfront. The most common way is through online satellites that offer WSOP seats, tournament tickets, and Vegas travel packages.

For many players, this is the easiest way to reach the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. It allows Canadians to start from smaller buy-ins and work their way toward the WSOP Main Event or other bracelet events.

    Main ways to qualify

    • WSOP Express at GGPoker
    • Play online satellites for WSOP 2026.
    • Win a seat to the WSOP Main Event.
    • Qualify for smaller WSOP bracelet events.
    • Target packages that include travel and hotel value.
    • Start from low buy-ins and move up through step qualifiers.

    Why this matters

    • Lower cost than buying in directly.
    • Better option for recreational and mid-stakes players.
    • More ways to reach Las Vegas on a budget.
    • Strong path for Canadians chasing the WSOP dream.
Below, we explain the most important route in more detail, including how WSOP Express works for Canadian players.

    The Complete WSOP Express Guide

WSOP Express is GGPoker's multi-step satellite system that lets you win a $10,000 WSOP Main Event seat + travel package (worth up to $12,500 USD) starting from as little as $0.50, or even for free. It's the single best tool available to Canadian players who want to play the Main Event without a direct $10,000 buy-in.

    undefined
WSOP Express at GGPoker gives Canadian players a step-by-step path to qualify for WSOP 2026, from low-cost entry points to live event passes.

How It Works: The 4-Step Ladder

The path consists of four steps, each won ticket unlocking the next level. The good thing is, you don’t have to start at Step 1. You can enter at any step with cash buy-in or a ticket.

Step 1: All-In or Fold SNG ($0.50 or free ticket)

This is the entry point. You join a 4-player All-in or Fold sit-and-go where every decision is shove or fold, no post-flop play. Each player starts with three stacks of 80 chips (blinds 5/10), and you can deploy stacks individually or combine them for a starting stack of 240.

This strategic element of "when to burn stacks" separates good players from bad ones even in this simplified format. The winner receives a Step 2 ticket. These fill instantly 24/7 and cost just $0.50 if you don't have a free ticket.

    Step 2: Spin & Gold 6-Max ($2 or Step 2 ticket)

A 6-player format where a wheel is spun to determine the prize pool multiplier before play begins. Prizes range from additional tickets all the way up to a direct WSOP pass for lucky high-multiplier spins. Most wins at this level advance you to a Step 3 or Step 4 ticket.

Step 3: Target Stack Turbo Tournament ($10 or Step 3 ticket)

This is a 10-player on-demand turbo tournament using GGPoker's "Target Stacks" (milestone satellite) format. You start with 3,000 chips and blinds of 25/50 (60 big blinds), with levels lasting just 5 minutes.

Crucially, as soon as your chip stack reaches the target of 50,000 chips, you automatically win a Step 4 ticket and leave the table, without worrying about losing your ticket. This removes the "ICM disaster" of busting when already in the money.

Step 4: Main MTT Satellite ($150 or Step 4 ticket)

The final step is a regular MTT satellite with direct prizes: a WSOP pass (worth $10,000+ live Main Event seat + hotel + travel) or a Bracelet/Super Step Pass for other WSOP bracelet events.

Players finishing in pass positions are awarded the package; remaining players may receive smaller cash prizes or lower step tickets depending on the satellite structure.

Types of WSOP Events in 2026

    • High Rollers and Super High Rollers: Events with buy-ins from $25,000 to $250,000 attract many of poker’s biggest names and toughest fields. Canadians like Sam Greenwood and Mike Watson continue to be regular contenders in these high-stakes events.
    • Mid-Stakes Events ($1,000 to $5,000): These events remain the backbone of the WSOP schedule, with formats such as Mystery Millions, $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em tournaments, and several Omaha events. Canadian players including Ari Engel and Kristen Foxen have built strong reputations in this range.
    • Mixed Games and Specialty Format: From H.O.R.S.E. and Razz to Dealer’s Choice, the WSOP continues to showcase poker’s full variety. Daniel Negreanu is especially well known for his success and consistency across mixed-game formats.
    • Low Buy-In and Festival Events: Accessible tournaments such as the Colossus continue to appeal to recreational players and value hunters. These events offer a lower-cost path into the series while still delivering huge fields and memorable bracelet opportunities.

2025 WSOP Highlights: What Happened Last Year

The 2025 WSOP delivered a memorable Main Event, with Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi winning his eighth bracelet and first world championship title for $10 million.

His run was historic. Mizrachi came back from just two big blinds with 24 players left, then tore through the final table in only 79 hands, the fastest Main Event final table in 20 years. He started the final day with 75% of the chips in play and eliminated the final three players in quick succession.

The Main Event attracted 9,735 players and produced a $90.5 million prize pool, the third largest in WSOP history. John Wasnock finished runner-up for $6 million.

Elsewhere, Dennis Weiss won the $50,000 Poker Players Championship, Veerachai Vongxaiburana claimed a $10,000 title, and Viktor Blom posted a deep run with a fifth-place finish.

The WSOP Online series on GGPoker also returned with 33 bracelet events and $63 million-plus in guarantees, with Benjamin Rolle winning the Main Event for $3.9 million.

    A Brief WSOP History

The WSOP was born in 1970 at Binion's Horseshoe Casino in downtown Las Vegas, the brainchild of legendary casino owner Benny Binion. That first year, a small group of poker's best players gathered and voted Johnny Moss as champion. The following year, 1971, it became a freeze-out tournament format, and the Main Event as we know it was born.

For three decades, the WSOP was a tight-knit world of professional gamblers. Then came 2003, when an accountant from Tennessee named Chris Moneymaker turned an $86 online satellite win into a $2.5 million Main Event victory.

The "Moneymaker Effect" detonated the global poker boom and transformed the WSOP from a cult event into a mainstream phenomenon. Today the Main Event draws upward of 8,000-10,000 players annually.

The series has been owned by Caesars Entertainment since 2004 and is now co-hosted at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas, with events also held in Europe and online via GGPoker.

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is the biggest and most prestigious live poker series in the world. Every summer, players from around the globe travel to Las Vegas to compete for WSOP bracelets, major prize pools, and a shot at the $10,000 Main Event title.

How much is the Main Event buy-in?

The WSOP Main Event buy-in is $10,000. It remains the most famous freezeout tournament in poker and the headline event of the summer series. In 2025, Main Event champion Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi won $10,000,000 in prize money.

How many Canadians have won WSOP bracelets?

Canadian players have won bracelets across Main Events, mixed games, no-limit hold’em, and high rollers.

How can Canadians qualify for WSOP 2026?

Canadian players can qualify for WSOP 2026 through online satellites, step qualifiers, and package promotions. Many players aim to win a Main Event seat, a travel package, or entry into other bracelet events without paying the full buy-in upfront. If you are looking for the most affordable option, WSOP Express qualifiers at GGPoker are a good place to start.

    Can Canadians play WSOP Online?

WSOP Online is not generally available in Canada, but Canadian players can still qualify for live WSOP events through online satellites on platforms such as GGPoker, as well as through live satellite tournaments. Some players also travel to eligible jurisdictions for online play where permitted.

Are there low buy-in WSOP events for beginners?

Yes. WSOP 2026 includes several lower buy-in events that are more accessible for recreational players and first-timers. Popular options usually include events such as the Colossus, Mystery Millions, deepstack tournaments, and other bracelet events priced well below the Main Event.
