WSOP Super Circuit Canada Heats Up Ahead of Massive CA$10M GTD Main Event

The whole series runs until September 12 with 18 official gold-ring tournaments and over CA$14,000,000 in guarantees, all leading up to the monster CA$5,000 Main Event featuring a CA$10,000,000 prize pool on September 3.

Between packed tournament rooms, early Canadian ring winners, and an 84-year-old local hero making his first WSOP score after 21 years of grinding, there is plenty of buzz in the room right now.

Unforgettable moments from WSOP Super Circuit in Kahnawake just keep rolling out, and this time the spotlight was shining upon 84-year-old Richard Leonardo. After 21 years on the grind, Leonardo locked up the very first official WSOP cash of his career by navigating into the money in the massive CA$500 Mini Main Event. 

Known as Montreal’s longest-serving firefighter, Leonardo spent his professional life battling the heat before retiring at the age of 66. That is why the tournament pressure at Playground must have been child’s play, as he survived the money bubble and advanced all the way to Day 2 through a colossal 3,484-entry field. Unfortunately, the veteran couldn't quite claim the ring this time around, but what a run!

Canadian players are representing their home turf with an iron grip by dominating multiple events and taking home the first gold-ring events.
