Paul Klann Leads WSOP Super Circuit Canada Main Event Into Day 5

The WSOP Super Circuit Canada Main Event moved another step closer to crowning its champion on September 8, with Canadian Paul Klann emerging at the top of the latest displayed chip counts at Playground in Kahnawake, Quebec.

It was another packed day of live poker in Canada. The CA$5,000 Main Event played through Day 4, the CA$14,000 GGMillion$ High Roller continued, and two more starting flights of the CA$600 Ultra Stack were completed. The CA$25,000 Super High Roller was also scheduled to begin as the festival entered its high-stakes closing stretch. WSOP's official schedule confirms all four events formed part of Tuesday's programme.

The biggest development came in the CA$5,000 WSOP Super Circuit Canada Main Event, which previously attracted 2,844 entries and generated CA$13,082,400, smashing its CA$10 million guarantee.

Paul Klann ended the latest displayed standings with 11,300,000, putting the Canadian well ahead of compatriot Guoyan Li on 8,100,000.

American Nicholas Palma sat third with 7,600,000, while Austria's Fabian Gumz and Canadian Aaron Quon followed with 6,800,000 each.

Two of the Main Event's biggest names saw their runs end on September 8.

Canadian poker icon Daniel Negreanu finished 99th for CA$14,500, while reigning WSOP Main Event champion Michael Mizrachi went deeper, eventually exiting in 78th place for CA$21,000.

Their eliminations leave the spotlight firmly on the large group of Canadians still chasing the title and a prestigious WSOP Circuit ring.

The CA$14,000 GGMillion$ High Roller also continued on September 8.

American Carter Mcmahon topped the supplied standings with 2,100,000, but Canadian Taran Parmar was close behind with 1,700,000.

Renaud Jacob held 1,100,000, while Allen Shen and Sergei Gurin were also among the Canadians appearing in the top 12.

The GGMillion$ carries a CA$1 million guarantee and is scheduled to run through September 9.

The CA$600 Ultra Stack meanwhile completed its remaining two starting flights.

Canadian star Michael Leah topped the displayed Flight 1B counts with 1,100,000, followed by fellow Canadian Senthuran Vijayaratnam with 983,000.

Ashkan Razavi (848,000), Marco Aristeo (827,000), Richard Pothier (821,000) and Christina Knot (750,000) were among a heavily Canadian group advancing from the flight.

Canada also claimed the top four displayed stacks from Flight 1C.

Serge Grenier finished with 1,100,000, followed by Xiao Fang on 898,000, Aleksei Ponomarev with 869,000 and Vadym Sienichkin with 824,000.

Remarkably, all three Ultra Stack flights therefore produced Canadian displayed leaders with approximately 1.1 million chips. The CA$600 event carries a CA$250,000 guarantee.

Attention now turns to September 9, with the Main Event moving into Day 5 and Klann holding the largest stack in the supplied standings.

The GGMillion$ High Roller and Ultra Stack also continue, while Event #13, the CA$1,500 Monster Stack with a CA$200,000 guarantee, is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

With Klann and Li occupying the top two Main Event positions, Parmar second in the GGMillion$, and Canadians leading all three Ultra Stack flights, the home-field story at Playground remains difficult to miss.
