WSOP Super Circuit Canada: Pillon and Stoffmaker Win as CA$10M Main Event Begins

The CA$10M Main Event at Playground kicks off today, stakes are higher than ever.

The WSOP Super Circuit Canada has crowned two more Canadian champions at Playground, just as the festival prepares for its biggest tournament yet.

James Pillon captured Event #4, the CA$2,300 Super Circuit Canadian Championship, for CA$335,000, while Harley Stoffmaker won Event #5, the CA$1,500 Monster Stack PLO, for CA$90,000.

Both victories came on Wednesday, September 2, continuing Canada's remarkable run during the inaugural Super Circuit in Kahnawake, Quebec.

Attention now turns to the centrepiece of the entire festival. The CA$5,000 WSOP Super Circuit Main Event begins today, September 3, carrying a massive CA$10 million guarantee. The official WSOP schedule confirms Flight A begins at noon local time.

James Pillon Wins Championship for CA$335,000

The biggest result of Wednesday belonged to James Pillon, who defeated Omid Shabazian heads-up to win the CA$2,300 Super Circuit Canadian Championship.

Pillon collected CA$335,000 and a WSOP Circuit ring, while Shabazian earned CA$225,000 as runner-up.

Yaroslav Yatsiuk completed an all-Canadian top three, finishing third for CA$155,000.

The Championship attracted 996 entries and generated a CA$2,014,360 prize pool, according to the official WSOP results. A total of 146 players finished in the money.

Canada supplied nine of the top 12 finishers, including all three players on the podium.

The result also produced one of the largest payouts of the festival so far, with Pillon's CA$335,000 surpassing Daniel Haim's CA$185,000 Mini Main victory.

Harley Stoffmaker Wins Monster Stack PLO

Canada added another ring in Event #5, where Harley Stoffmaker won the CA$1,500 Monster Stack Pot-Limit Omaha.

Stoffmaker earned CA$90,000 after defeating fellow Canadian Christopher Alcindor heads-up. Alcindor received CA$58,000.

Jordan's Abdul Almagableh prevented another all-Canadian podium by finishing third for CA$39,000.

Again, Canadian representation was overwhelming, with ten of the top 12 finishers representing the host country.

Canada Continues to Dominate at Playground

The opening stretch of the festival has been remarkable for Canadian players.

Sebastien Proulx won the CA$500 Super Circuit Kickoff for CA$56,000. Daniel Haim followed by winning the 3,484-entry Mini Main for CA$185,000. Frederic Moss then captured the CA$1,000 Mystery Bounty for CA$90,000.

Pillon and Stoffmaker have now added two more home-country victories.

That means Canadian players have won each of the first five completed ring events.

CA$10 Million Main Event Starts Today

The CA$5,000 WSOP Super Circuit Canada Main Event begins today at noon at Playground with CA$10 million guaranteed.

Players receive 50,000 starting chips, with the Main Event structured across multiple opening stages. Players who bag chips in today's Day 1A advance to Day 2A on Friday. The tournament also offers further starting opportunities through the weekend, with late registration remaining available into Day 2.

The Main Event is the largest tournament on a festival schedule featuring 18 WSOP Circuit ring events from August 26 through September 12.

After five Canadian victories from the first five completed events, the home players could hardly have asked for a better start.

But from today, the stakes increase dramatically.

The CA$10 million Main Event has arrived, and Playground is about to find out whether the extraordinary early turnout and Canadian success can carry into the biggest tournament in the history of the Super Circuit Canada.
