Canadian pro Daniel Dvoress won the Triton Montenegro $100K PLO Main Event for $2,018,000, his second title in two weeks. Dvoress overcame a short stack at the final table, while fellow Canadian Mike Watson secured a fifth-place finish.
Canada’s Daniel Dvoress has added another prestigious accolade to his tournament resume. Just a couple of weeks after winning the opening event of Triton Montenegro, the $25K Golden Decade event, the Ontarian emerged as the last man standing in the $100K PLO Main Event.
Dvoress secured a first-place prize of $2,018,000 along with a Jacob & Co Epic X Skeleton timepiece, which is traditionally gifted to winners of Triton main events.
The tournament attracted a field of 76 high-caliber entrants. With this victory, Dvoress moves to the top of the Triton all-time standings for Omaha events. He has now collected 75 cashes, 5 titles, and a total of $32,811,982 on the Triton tour.
A Come-From-Behind Victory at the Final Table
Dvoress faced tough competition at a final table that included fellow Canadian Mike Watson. Dvoress joined the final seven players close to the bottom of the chip counts, holding one of the shortest stacks in the field.
"Mentally I was preparing to think of techniques to try to ladder, try to sneak in a pay-jump," Dvoress told reporters following his come-from-behind victory. "And then things turned around really quickly. I just feel really fortunate."
Other players who made deep runs in the PLO Main Event included Robert Cowen, Patrik Antonius, and Manuel Stojanovic, the latter of whom ran Dvoress closest for the title.
Mike Watson and Patrik Antonius Put Up Strong Showings
Mike Watson also enjoyed a highly successful series in Montenegro, picking up two tournament wins of his own.
Watson earned a $659K victory in the $30K Turbo event, followed by a $381K score for winning the $65K Turbo Bounty Quatro tournament. He added another $585K to his series total by finishing 5th in the $100K PLO Main Event.
Patrik Antonius also recorded multiple deep runs during the series. A few days prior to the PLO final table, Antonius finished 7th in the 159-entry $100K No-Limit Hold’em Main Event, earning $595K. That tournament was won by Danny Tang, who collected a $3.5M top prize.
Following the conclusion of the Montenegro stops, the Triton Tour makes way for the WSOP as player focus shifts to events in Las Vegas. The tour will return for another Super High Roller Series in Jeju, Korea, starting September 4.
