Carbon Poker is part of the Merge Network and their software reflects that. Before we talk about the gameplay or any other features, we're going to touch on compatibility issues that you may face. If you use a PC (a computer with Windows operating system) then you have nothing to worry about. If, however, you are using any other operating system, including Mac or Linux, then you will probably run into some problems. There is no Mac or Linux compatible download client available from Carbon Poker at this time, so the only way you can play there is by installing Windows on your computer through the use of a PC emulator such as Boot Camp.
Assuming the above compatibility issues don't apply to you, it's important to make sure that your PC meets the minimum requirements set by Carbon Poker. The first step is making sure you have a copy of Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, or newer. Your Pentium processor needs to be at least 400 MHz fast and your PC should be equipped with 128 MB of RAM or more. The software will take up approximately 30 MB of disk space and requires an active Internet connection. These minimums are the bare-bones requirements, and players with more advanced hardware will generally have a better experience.
Carbon Poker doesn't try to dazzle you with mind-blowing 3D graphics. Instead they keep the design simple in order to maximize playability and keep the software running at peak performance. If you're into multi-tabling, you should be happy to know that Carbon Poker lets all of its players to play at up to eight active tables at any given time. Regardless of how many tables you have running, this software can pick up the slack and
The interface that you'll find at Carbon Poker is nice and straightforward. It's based on a series of tabs and filters that you can use to find specific poker games based on the table limits, game type, and other statistics like hands per hour and flop percentage. Although aesthetically unique, this isn't terribly different than the lobby system used at all of the other major online poker rooms.
Carbon is on the leading edge of the online poker community when it comes to cool new features like their advanced tagging system. Instead of the normal, paper thin tagging option that you see all over the Internet, Carbon Poker has taken it one step further. Now, when you tag another player on Carbon Poker, you have the opportunity to make your own personal profile for the person. While you're busy tracking them, you can make the task easier for yourself by keeping detailed notes in this custom mini-profile.
