World Series of Poker officials have removed the shot clock for the 2026 Main Event final table following its initial implementation after Day 6. Nine finalists will resume play at Horseshoe Las Vegas, competing for the $10,000,000 top poker prize.
World Series of Poker (WSOP) officials have confirmed that the shot clock, also known as the Action Clock, will not be in effect for the final table of the 2026 WSOP Main Event.
The decision resolves ongoing questions among players and fans regarding time limits following unprecedented rule changes earlier in the tournament.
The controversy surrounding time management began after Day 6 of the tournament. For the first time in the 57-year history of the WSOP, officials made the decision to implement a shot clock.
This action was prompted by a hand on Day 6 in which Loren Klein tanked for 15 minutes while attempting to secure a pay jump.
Despite facing criticism from participants and observers, WSOP tournament directors pressed forward with enforcing shot clocks across Days 7 and 8.
Play was halted once the field reached a single table in mid-July, leading into a scheduled two-week hiatus and leaving the rule status for the final table uncertain until now.
Player and Industry Reactions
The decision to omit the shot clock at the final table has drawn varied responses from the poker community.
Several prominent figures voiced support for the move. Poker professional Barny Boatman expressed approval, stating, "Congratulations on a very good decision."
Similarly, the Ragzy X account endorsed the update, stating, "This is the right thing to do. Shouldn't have changed the rules in the first place.
Issue was floor staff didn’t do their job monitoring or they would have caught the 1 person with the excessive stall and there wouldn't have been any problems."
Conversely, other members of the community questioned the consistency of the tournament's rule enforcement.
Harry Gandia offered criticism regarding the mid-tournament adjustments, asking, "So just changing the goalposts as we go along? Not a good look for one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world."
Final Table Line-up and Schedule
The final nine players were officially set in mid-July and will return to Horseshoe Las Vegas from August 3-5 to determine the champion. Play resumes in exactly three weeks' time.
Twenty-two-year-old Lucas Jumalon holds the chip lead with 194,000,000 chips. Rami Hammoud and Jamie Shaevel round out the top three stacks.
The remaining field features highly decorated professionals, including Canada's Greg Mueller, who holds three WSOP bracelets, and America's Michael Gagliano, who has four bracelets.
All nine remaining players have guaranteed themselves at least $1,000,000 in prize money, with the eventual winner taking home the $10,000,000 top prize.
