PKR Poker has, bar none, the best 3d graphics of any online poker room. The tables are full 3D spaces with multiple camera angles, lighting effects, and , most impressively, a selection of carefully animated avatars. These 3D caricatures are able to do tricks with their chip stacks, give a variety of facial expressions based on the game, and go through all of the life like motions that you'd expect from a real player. It has even been suggested that these players can give tells based on repetitive actions like checking their hole cards.
Because of the higher level of graphical detail, the PKR poker room has a higher set of computer requirements. These include a processor with at least 1 GHz, 512 MB of RAM, and 450 MB of hard drive space for the software. In addition, while most online poker rooms are silent on the subject of graphics cards, PKR asks that its users have one rated at 32 MB. The software team says that your Internet connection should be at the "broadband" level, which basically means that dial-up connections will not suffice. Finally you need to have a copy of Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or newer.
Since this software is so advanced, there are no streaming versions available at the moment. Because of this Linux users are not supported. If this applies to you, and you still want to play at PKR, don't get too discouraged. If you are on a Mac, on the other hand, there is a special downloadable package for you. Just make sure you are on a Mac with an Intel processor and either Leopard or Snow Leopard operating systems.
Players only have a few game options: Texas Holdem, Omaha, and Omaha Hi/Lo. Luckily the table limits range from micro stakes to $15/$30 and higher. Like we said before, the graphics at PKR are unbeatable. There are loads of different camera angles and even the close-ups do not disappoint. If you want your online poker experience to mirror the game in real life, PKR is the best option around. If, however, you're a grinder who just wants to go through the motions, there may be better options. The biggest event at PKR is the $100,000 monthly game, and each Sunday they have a tournament with $25,000 guaranteed. Luckily, most players aren't in the business of playing the really massive games with the big buy-ins.
Even though the software is exceptional at the tables, the lobby could be considered vanilla. This isn't a bad thing by any means, but it is ordinary. Just like most poker rooms you visit, the tables/tournaments are presented based on the type of game. From here, you are free to break them into smaller categories such as the size of table limits and number of seats available. It might not be revolutionary, but this lobby interface is used everywhere for one simple reason. It works.
