Summer Super Stack Continues Strong Run with PKO Victory and Growing Deepstack Field

Dean Morrone captured the Summer Super Stack PKO title, Gavin Lee won the PLO Double Board Bomb Pot, and the opening two flights of the $340 Deepstack attracted 266 entries, with Event #3 expected to grow significantly after the final starting flight.
The 2026 Summer Super Stack at Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary continued with two more completed tournaments and the opening stages of its first multi-flight event.
Thursday featured the PLO Double Board Bomb Pot, while Friday's schedule included the Progressive Knockout event. Both tournaments attracted strong participation, while the multi-flight Deepstack event posted solid numbers through its opening two starting flights.
The Thursday PLO Double Board Bomb Pot drew 68 entries, while Friday's PKO attracted 133 entries, making it the largest one-day event of the series so far. Meanwhile, Event #3 has already accumulated 266 entries and $75,810 in prize money after two of its three scheduled starting flights.
The first multi-flight tournament of the festival, Event #3: $340 Deepstack ($300 + $40), has produced a strong turnout through its opening sessions.
Day 1a attracted 109 entries, generating $31,065 in prize money. Day 1b added another 157 entries, bringing the combined total to 266 entries and increasing the prize pool to $75,810 ahead of Saturday's final starting flight.
A total of 27 players secured their seats for Day 2 after the first two flights, with more than 20 additional qualifiers expected from Day 1c.
Phil Clingo finished Day 1b with the overall chip lead after bagging 600,000 chips. Clingo, who finished runner-up in this event during the Spring series, leads the field entering the final starting flight.
Mike Malm's Day 1a chip-leading stack ranks second overall, followed by Jarret Gray, Nan Yu, and Copper Bews to complete the current top five.
Organisers expect the final field for Event #3 to exceed 400 entries and potentially surpass 500 once Day 1c concludes.
Gavin Lee Claims PLO Double Board Bomb Pot Victory
Event #4: $450 PLO Double Board Bomb Pot ($400 + $50) delivered the action-heavy format players expected, attracting 68 entries and creating a prize pool of $25,840.
The tournament reached the money approximately eight hours after play began. Action accelerated from seven players down to three in under an hour before the remaining competitors spent nearly two more hours contesting the title.
Adam White exited in third place, setting up a heads-up battle between Gavin Lee and Nicholas Lee, who are not related.
The duel lasted nearly another hour and featured several key hands. One of the biggest moments came when Nicholas Lee avoided elimination by making only a flat call on the river with a full house on the lower board, running into Gavin Lee's quad queens and preserving his tournament life.
Although Nicholas Lee continued to battle, Gavin Lee maintained the chip advantage he had built during the closing stages of the final table.
As play approached 3 AM and preparations were being made to move to the poker room, the two players agreed to divide the remaining prize money according to their chip stacks.
The agreement awarded Gavin Lee the official victory and first-place prize of $7,455, while Nicholas Lee received $6,500 after collecting roughly $600 more than the posted second-place payout.
Dean Morrone Captures Largest One-Day Event of the Series
Event #5: $340 PKO ($150 + $150 + $40) became the biggest one-day tournament of the Summer Super Stack so far, attracting 133 entries, two more than the Seniors event.
The tournament generated a total prize pool of $37,905, consisting of $17,955 in regular prize money and $19,950 allocated to bounty payouts.
Play lasted nearly 12 hours, with the final hand taking place in the poker room at approximately 5:45 AM.
Players reached the money after around eight hours before competing for more than three additional hours to determine the champion.
The final table featured several significant all-in confrontations. Ross Wilson became the first elimination from the final ten after Jody Fayant flopped a set of queens against Wilson's pocket aces. Wilson improved to a flush on the river, but Fayant had already filled up on the turn.
Momentum quickly shifted against Fayant, who was eliminated in ninth place after losing with ace-king and pocket kings in consecutive hands.
About an hour after the final table began, only four players remained. Dean Morrone held the chip lead after Mike Malm exited in fifth place and successfully converted that advantage into the tournament victory.
Dale Campbell was eliminated shortly before 5 AM. Campbell is a regular competitor in Edmonton tournament series but rarely travels to Calgary because of mobility challenges. Following his deep run in the PKO, he may be encouraged to make more trips south for future events.
Three-handed play featured Morrone holding a sizeable lead over Raymond Trieu and Brandon Leys. Leys remained in contention for roughly 20 minutes after the action moved to the poker room before moving all-in blind with five big blinds. Morrone called with jack-six, which held against Leys' nine-five after a jack appeared on the flop.
Heads-up play began with Morrone enjoying a substantial chip advantage. Trieu managed one double-up when his six-four of spades completed a straight against Morrone's suited king, but he was unable to build further momentum.
The tournament concluded soon after when Morrone's king-eight offsuit defeated Trieu's ace-deuce offsuit.
Morrone earned $4,084 in prize money along with $5,400 in bounty winnings, taking home more than $9,000 in total. Trieu collected more than $5,500 between prize money and bounties.
With the PLO Double Board Bomb Pot and PKO now complete, the 2026 Summer Super Stack continues to post healthy participation numbers.
The first multi-flight Deepstack event has already reached 266 entries before its final starting flight, while Dean Morrone and Gavin Lee added titles to their series performances with victories in two of the festival's featured tournaments.
