Malta Poker Community Rallies Around Antoine Degiorgio
- Charity poker tournament at Portomaso Casino supports Antoine Degiorgio's recovery.

Antoine Degiorgio has spent years helping visiting poker players find their feet in Malta. Now many of those same connections are being called on for a much more serious reason.
Portomaso Casino will host a charity poker tournament raising money for Degiorgio’s continued rehabilitation following the heart attack he suffered earlier this year. The event brings together the local poker community, casino and several industry partners around his family’s efforts to fund the next stage of his care.
Charity Tournament Heads to Portomaso
The tournament will be staged at Portomaso Casino in St Julian’s, a venue closely associated with Malta’s live poker scene and host to numerous international festivals over the years.
The event will also have several additional prizes contributed by companies connected to poker and gaming. Among them are a The Festival Series package valued at €1,600, four €125 TF Tallinn Chicago tickets, a €250 NBDP Coin Bundle and a €250 Betsson One Bullet Entry.
The extra prizes give the tournament a more conventional poker-event element, but the money raised is intended to help finance Degiorgio’s long-term rehabilitation.
Poker Community Gives Back to One of Its Own
Degiorgio has been a fixture in Malta poker for more than 15 years and founded Malta Poker Fish, a Facebook community that has grown to more than 5,000 members. The group has served as a hub for local players, expats and visitors looking for information on poker around the island.
His connection with charity poker also predates his current situation. Last December, the Annual Round Table Malta Charity Poker tournament he organised raised €11,125 for Dar Bjorn.
After suffering a heart attack in March, Degiorgio was left requiring specialist cognitive and neurological rehabilitation. His family is now targeting €85,000 to fund approximately a year of care outside the level of support currently available to him in hospital.
For Malta’s poker community, the Portomaso event provides a chance to reverse roles for someone who has spent years organising, connecting and helping others around the island’s tables.
