Only 54 of the 118 entrants survived Day 1, with Calvin Anderson leading. Canadian players Daniel Negreanu and Ari Engel both busted the event leaving Alex Livington to be the only Canadian in contention.
The opening day of play for Event 48: $10,000 Razz Championship has officially come to a completion at the 2026 World Series of Poker. A total of 118 entrants filled the tournament seats today to generate a substantial prize pool of $1,097,400.

By the end of the day's action, only 54 players retained the ability to see a piece of that prize pool, with Canadian professional poker player Alex Livingston positioning himself at the forefront of the remaining field.

From a national perspective, the opening day brought contrasting results for the Canadian contingent, leaving Livingston as the central storyline. Livingston successfully navigated the competitive field to finish the night within the top 50 stacks, bagging up 77,000 chips to secure his place in Day 2.

While Livingston advanced, other high-profile Canadian players were unable to survive the opening day. Both Daniel Negreanu and Ari Engel busted during the initial rounds of play, failing to make the cut for Day 2 and leaving Livingston as the only Canadian from this group to advance.

While Livingston keeps Canadian hopes alive, the overall leaderboard is currently commanded by a player highly familiar with this specific tournament. Calvin Anderson built a massive chiplead on Day 1, bagging a field-leading 343,500 chips.
Back in 2018, the Oklahoma poker player claimed his second career WSOP bracelet in this identical championship event, taking home $309,220 for his efforts. Anderson has since added another bracelet to his record, bringing his total to three.

The overnight podium behind Anderson is completed by two formidable players who also amassed significant chip counts during the opening day.

Maximilian Schindler occupies the second spot on the leaderboard with 281,000 chips, while former Razz champion Jay Kwon sits in third with 269,000 chips. Kwon has also tasted success in this specific discipline, having won a WSOP bracelet in Razz back in 2018 in the $1,500 variant.
