WPT Global $2 Million GTD Crazy Freerolls
Turns out the Crazy Freerolls at WPT Global were a little too popular for their own good. After just a few short weeks, their biggest freeroll promo to date has been temporarily shelved. It's not because of a lack of interest, but because the level of participation caused the servers to tap out.

It’s not the kind of break anyone asked for, but the upside is that the break comes with a built-in reward, and the promo isn’t gone for good. The freerolls are officially set to return on October 1 with a smoother backend and a big-ticket welcome-back event already confirmed.

A Freeroll Series That Caught Fire

When the Crazy Freerolls launched this summer, the idea was clear enough - give away a mountain of prize money with no buy-ins. With that in mind, WPT Global scheduled daily $10K events throughout the week, building to a Sunday $100K freeroll.

Entry paths were accessible to just about everyone. Regular activity, small-stakes satellites, and a Friends Group leaderboard gave players multiple ways in, while word of mouth did the rest. The tables filled up. Fast. And they kept filling. Eventually, the backend couldn’t keep pace with the demand.

Servers Say No - But There’s a Silver Lining

According to the official WPT Global statement, the traffic volume (over)exceeded initial expectations, leaving the site with no choice but to halt the promo for a full server upgrade. The pause is temporary -- just long enough to rework the infrastructure and make sure the freerolls run the way they’re supposed to.

In the meantime, everything players earned -- tickets, points, leaderboard placements -- remains untouched. And to sweeten the wait, WPT Global is automatically entering all players into a $100K Super Crazy Freeroll when the promotion resumes. The $20,000 first prize is still on the table -- no action required.

Affiliate Commissions Still Flowing

The break hasn’t affected the affiliate side of the equation. In fact, WPT Global has already paid out over $30,000 in commissions for Week 2 of the promotion, with credits landing on September 1. While the games are paused, the affiliate ecosystem is still very much alive.

October Can’t Come Soon Enough

All eyes are now on the October 1 relaunch. With backend improvements in progress and a headline freeroll waiting in the wings, the next phase of the Crazy Freerolls looks set to pick up right where things left off -- only with fewer loading screens.

For now, it’s a waiting game. But with six figures on the horizon, it might just be worth it.
