Sanjaya Wadhwani fifth place EPT Barcelona Second Chance
Canadian poker player Sanjaya Wadhwani has delivered one of Canada's strongest results of the closing stages of EPT Barcelona, finishing fifth in the €2,700 EPT Second Chance for €95,360.

The tournament concluded at Casino Barcelona on August 26 after attracting 844 entries and generating a €2,046,700 prize pool. Wadhwani reached the nine-handed final table before eventually exiting in fifth place, securing a near six-figure score in one of the festival's larger side events.

British professional Scott Margereson went on to win the tournament for €361,060, while Natasha Mercier finished runner-up for €225,580.

Wadhwani Reaches Final Table in 844-Entry Field

Wadhwani entered the final stages firmly in contention.

PokerNews chip counts showed the Canadian with 259,000 chips during the earlier phase of the tournament. By the time the field had been reduced to the final seven players, Wadhwani had climbed to 3,255,000, putting him third in chips at that stage.

He ultimately converted that position into fifth place.

The final table included players from nine different countries, with Wadhwani carrying the Canadian flag alongside a strong international lineup.

Place Player Country Prize
1 Scott Margereson United Kingdom € 361,060
2 Natasha Mercier Lebanon € 225,580
3 Cherish Andrews United States € 161,140
4 Julien Thome France € 123,940
5 Sanjaya Wadhwani Canada € 95,360
6 Cristinel Dumitru Romania € 73,360
7 Fabio Peluso Italy € 56,400
8 Maciej Komorowski Poland € 43,400
9 Maksim Paniak Russia € 33,380

Canadian Players Continue to Make Noise in Barcelona

Wadhwani's result adds another Canadian score to an EPT Barcelona festival that has already featured several players with Canadian connections across the schedule.

Ontario's Parker Talbot also made the money in the €5,300 EPT Main Event. Talbot advanced to Day 3 with 343,000 chips before being eliminated in 128th place for €13,100.

The Main Event itself attracted 1,823 entries and generated an €8,841,550 prize pool, with €1,370,050 waiting for the eventual champion.

Wadhwani's deeper run came instead in the EPT Second Chance, a tournament designed to give players another substantial multi-day opportunity during the second half of the Barcelona festival.

With 844 entries, it became a sizeable event in its own right.

€95,360 Score for Canada

Wadhwani did not capture the title, but fifth place represents a significant Canadian result during one of the busiest weeks on the international poker calendar.

Reaching the final table required surviving more than 800 entries before navigating a lineup that included eventual champion Margereson, American tournament regular Cherish Andrews and several experienced European players.

The confirmed result leaves Wadhwani with €95,360 from the event.

EPT Barcelona continues through August 29, meaning Canadian players still have opportunities to add further results before the festival concludes.

For now, Wadhwani's fifth-place finish stands as one of Canada's headline performances from the latest round of action in Barcelona.
