2025 WSOP Super Circuit Starting Soon: March 2nd to March 31st

When sports and entertainment fans think of March, most will think about March Madness and college basketball playoffs. Gamblers will be getting their picks in for the teams that they think will make the 2025 Final Four -- if not win the national championship outright. 

But the month of March is about poker as well. GGPoker will be running the 2025 WSOP Super Circuit event, an event that will run for basically the entire month of March.

The poker website, which features Canadian poker professional Daniel Negreanu as an ambassador, recently announced the return of the circuit with a $100M prize guarantee. Poker players will compete for 18 WSOP gold rings, large cash prizes, and spots in the 2025 Main Event in Vegas. It will all get started this upcoming weekend and the events will run from March 2nd through Monday, March 31st. 

If you are partial to college basketball during the month of March, then note that the 2025 WSOP Super Circuit need not interfere with watching the Final Four. This year's Final Four, which could feature the Duke Blue Devils and Auburn Tigers (*yawn*), will come from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas in early April.

Meanwhile, the GGPoker WSOP Super Circuit will be online, meaning poker players will be in the comforts of their own homes. This was a point Negreanu made in his statement about the event.

“Winning a WSOP gold ring is special. I still treasure my first (and only!) WSOP Circuit Ring, which I won in 2006. The WSOP Super Circuit at GGPoker allows players to chase gold and glory from the comfort of their homes; now is the time to take your shot.”

It's also as good of a time as any to look back at Negreanu's 2006 WSOP Circuit win.

The event took place from January 23rd to January 26th, 2006, when Negreanu was 31 years old. He took a top prize of $755,525 -- despite not doing well in tournaments in the previous calendar year. Looking back, Negreanu was far and away the biggest name in the cash although Phillip Galfond, Brandon Adams, and Daniel Alaei also cashed in the event.

Speaking back in 2006, Negreanu made some interesting comments. Never to be ignored, his advice is of as much use today as it was back then.

Negreanu spoke about profiling opponents and avoiding those coin-toss situations in which you simply can't hope to keep winning. While it is better to be the pair than the over-cards in the races, as Negreanu stated, he likes to take a flop-oriented approach to his poker game.

"I had a strategy designed for each individual player...The key to winning for me is that I stayed out of marginal situations. I don't want to get into a race with 6-6 against A-K and hope to stay alive. I think what I am best at is playing after the flop, and I wanted to get as many situations as I could where I was up against (an opponent) and could take them on after the flop. My goal is to see the most flops I can. I like to set traps. I let (opponents) get involved, and then trap them. If I get them drawing dead (which happened twice at the final table in big pots) that's always the plan."
