WSOP Circuit 2026
The World Series of Poker has confirmed that the 2026 WSOP International Circuit season will begin in Calgary, with Deerfoot Inn & Casino hosting the first stop of the new calendar-year format in January. The opener places Canada at the front of the global ring schedule just weeks into the new year, a positioning that should draw a national field and a healthy cohort from the northern United States.

Dates and Venue

Deerfoot has trailed that its 2026 tournament dates are locked, with WSOP Circuit among the headline series slated for the property. While the operator’s “save the dates” post does not yet list a full day-by-day program, third-party calendars indicate a mid-January window for the Circuit stop in Calgary.

Players should expect official flight times and structures to post on the WSOP schedule hub once finalized.

What Players Should Expect

Format and pricing are typically consistent year to year at this stop. Recent Calgary editions have combined a deep schedule of side events with a multi-flight Main Event and nightly satellites to smooth late-registration demand.

In 2025, for example, the Calgary festival featured a C$1,700 Main Event with three Day 1 flights, a C$2,200 High Roller, HORSE, Mystery Bounty and mixed-game offerings, plus daily qualifiers feeding the flagship. That profile is a reasonable guide to likely structures in January, though exact buy-ins and level lengths will be confirmed in the official release.

Operationally, a January start suits the property and the market. Multi-flight design helps manage room capacity, staffing and cage pressure across a winter weekend, while the satellite ladder broadens the funnel for recreational entries.

For travelling players, Deerfoot’s hotel-on-site set-up and proximity to Calgary International Airport reduce friction compared with smaller regional venues.

Why a January Opener Matters

The Circuit’s shift to a clean January–December season, flagged by tour communications earlier this year, creates a clearer narrative for rankings, marketing and player travel. Starting that season in Canada has three implications.

First, it spotlights the country’s live-poker demand at mid-tier buy-ins, which has held up through 2025 despite a congested calendar. Second, it sets a reference point for Main Event turnout and unique-wallet counts against winter conditions, a useful comparator for subsequent North American stops. Third, it gives Canadian rooms and affiliates a high-visibility platform in Q1, with satellite content and local-hero storylines likely to perform well.

For players, the calculus is straightforward. A January Calgary stop offers early-season ring opportunities without the travel cost of Vegas or Atlantic seaboard venues, and a mixed schedule that typically includes HORSE, PLO and bounty variants alongside No-Limit Hold’em.

For operators, the opener is a test of pricing bands, satellite density and re-entry policies ahead of larger spring festivals. For investors, watch three signals, Main Event entries relative to 2025, re-entry share versus unique wallets, and cash-game utilization during the festival window.
