WPT Season 23 Player of the Year
The Season 23 World Poker Tour Player of the Year race has concluded with Harvey Castro at the top of the leaderboard. Castro earned 1,850 points over the course of the season, finishing 250 points ahead of his nearest competitor, Kharlin Sued.

Unlike previous winners who often clinched the title with multiple Main Tour wins, Castro utilized the WPT Prime circuit to bolster his standings. His victory in the $1,100 WPT Prime Lodge Championship provided a significant points boost that remained unmatched by the rest of the field.

Navigating the Competition and the Controversy

The season was not without its hurdles. During his run at the Lodge, Castro faced community scrutiny regarding a verbal declaration that led to a ruling floor call. However, tournament officials later clarified the situation, clearing Castro of any intentional wrongdoing. This win proved pivotal, as it provided the necessary points to stay ahead of Kharlin Sued, who made a late charge by winning the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star for $480,700.

Schuyler Thornton, despite winning the season's flagship event for over $2.2 million, ultimately lacked the additional cashes needed to overtake Castro, finishing in third place. Other notable top-ten finishers included Art Peacock, who won at Seminole Hard Rock, and Danny Wong, who maintained a high level of consistency throughout the year.
