The "Rampunts" moniker might finally be heading for retirement. Ethan Yau, known to the poker world as Rampage, has started 2026 with a statement of intent rather than a wild shove. After vowing to sharpen his tournament prowess this year, Yau has already cashed in big, securing a second-place finish in the PGT Kickoff Event #4: $5,300 No-Limit Hold'em.

While he fell just one spot short of the trophy, Yau’s $105,125 payout proves that his renewed focus is yielding immediate dividends.

A Brutal River at the Final Table

The final table was a shark tank, featuring high-stakes regulars like Justin Zaki and Andrew Moreno. Yau navigated the field with uncharacteristic discipline, eventually finding himself heads-up against Taylor Paur.

The final hand was a classic poker heartbreak. Yau got his chips in as a favorite, holding K 9 against Paur’s K 7. He was just one card away from the title until a 7 on the river gave Paur the winning pair, relegating Yau to the runner-up spot. Despite the "bad beat" exit, the performance marked Yau’s second final table appearance of the series.

"Special in Something": The 2026 Manifesto

For Yau, this heater is the result of a conscious lifestyle shift. In a video shared with his 350,000+ subscribers late last month, he expressed a desire to move beyond his reputation as a "pretty average" athlete and gamer to become a truly elite poker player.

Yau admitted:

With poker, it’s given me the ability to be special in something. So, follow along in my 2026 journey. I’m committing myself to playing tournaments and making this five-year dream a reality.

The Hunt for the Massachusetts Top 10

The six-figure score does more than just pad Yau's bankroll; it moves him significantly closer to his primary goal for the year: cracking the Top 10 of the Massachusetts All-Time Money List.

Before the event, Yau noted he was roughly $400,000 away from the milestone. With this $105,125 win and his other recent deep runs, he has narrowed that gap to approximately $200,000. Currently sitting in 11th place, Yau is now breathing down the neck of Elijah Berg for that coveted 10th spot.

While he still trails state leader Nick Petrangelo by a massive margin, Yau’s trajectory suggests that the "vlogger" is quickly transforming into a "contender."
