The $30,000 Super High Roller at the Brazilian Series of Poker wrapped up in São Paulo with a finish that felt almost improbable on paper. Martin Kabrhel, who entered heads up against Ottomar Ladva with only a handful of big blinds, rallied all the way back to claim the title and $422,000. For a tournament that saw 24 players return for Day 2, the final showdown became the story everyone will talk about.

This time, I was very lucky.

Kabrhel said afterward, a simple summary of a complicated path to victory.

A Turbulent Path to the Final Table

The tempo early on Day 2 was brisk. Late entrants swelled the field to 24, and short stacks fell quickly, with ten eliminations recorded before the first level ended. The climb toward the final table slowed considerably, with several all-ins surviving until Renan Bruschi became the final-table bubble player.

When the last six sat down, the dynamic shifted to a two-man show. Both Kabrhel and Ladva started applying pressure long before the money bubble burst.

The decisive moment there came when Ivan Luca, remarkably making his third straight SHR final table, failed to hold with the better hand, becoming the bubble finisher.

From that point onward, all eliminations came at the hands of the eventual top two.

Eliminations and Momentum Swings

Kabrhel removed Rafael Moraes after waking up with pocket tens against ace-seven, then won a preflop flip against Thiago Crema. Ladva countered by eliminating Andre Akkari, then quickly sent Rodrigo Seiji to the rail, setting the stage for an evenly stacked duel.

The early heads-up pot appeared to seal the deal. In a single-raised pot, Ladva made trips and extracted maximum value from Kabrhel’s draw, leaving the Czech pro with six blinds. But what looked like a conclusion became the turning point: a double, a shove getting through, and another double-up brought the match back to parity.

The final hand came soon after. Ladva called off with queen-seven; Kabrhel held a pocket pair that held clean.
