Poker in Nova Scotia 2026: Casinos, Live Poker and Online Options
Find poker in Nova Scotia, including casino options around Halifax and Sydney, online poker availability and the latest information for players in the province.
Nova Scotia has a longer poker history than most Atlantic provinces realize, two land-based poker rooms dating back to 1995, a casino that is about to relocate for the first time in its history, a lottery-style poker game sold at corner stores, and three professional players from Halifax with a combined tens of millions of dollars in career earnings.
This guide covers where to play live and online, what is changing at Casino Nova Scotia, and how the province's rules compare to the rest of Atlantic Canada.

Casino Nova Scotia Halifax is the province's main poker room. There is no fixed public tournament schedule, but loyalty and other live tournaments are held from time to time, so it is worth calling the poker room directly to check what is running before you go.
Casino Nova Scotia Sydney carries a smaller footprint than Halifax, built primarily around slots and electronic and live table games such as roulette and Let It Ride.
Nova Scotia does not host its own major tournament festivals, so players chasing bigger fields typically travel to events covered in our Canadian poker tournaments guide and WSOP Circuit Canada hub, including the 2026 WSOP Super Circuit Canada at Playground in Kahnawake, Quebec.
Casino Nova Scotia's History
Casino Nova Scotia Halifax opened on June 1, 1995, as a temporary facility inside the Sheraton Hotel Halifax under the name Caesar's Sheraton Halifax Casino.
It moved into its current, purpose-built $100-million waterfront building on April 24, 2000, and was sold by Caesars to Great Canadian Gaming Corporation in October 2005, the same ownership group that runs it today under its current name, Great Canadian Entertainment.
Casino Nova Scotia Sydney opened two months after the original Halifax location, on August 1, 1995, as its sister property on George Street.
Casino Nova Scotia Is Moving to Dartmouth Crossing
On January 14, 2026, the Nova Scotia government and Great Canadian Entertainment announced that Casino Nova Scotia Halifax will relocate from its Upper Water Street waterfront site to a newly built casino at Dartmouth Crossing, across the harbour. The new facility is anticipated to be completed in 2029.
Until then, the current waterfront casino, poker room included, is expected to keep operating normally, with the province planning to lease back the existing building from its buyer so Great Canadian can continue running it without interruption during construction. Great Canadian and the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation have agreed on an extended 25-year operational term for the new site once it opens.
If the Dartmouth Crossing project does not go ahead for any reason, Casino Nova Scotia will continue operating under its current agreement at the existing location.
Does Nova Scotia Have Online Poker?
Nova Scotia does not have a multiplayer online poker product of its own, the kind where you play against other real players rather than the house. What it does have, uniquely among the Atlantic provinces, is access to the Atlantic Lottery Corporation's online Live Casino, which includes Ultimate Texas Hold'em, a poker-based table game played against the dealer rather than against other players.
ALC's Live Casino, run in partnership with Evolution Gaming, is only available in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island, which sets Nova Scotia apart from New Brunswick, where ALC's online casino does not include this Live Casino product at all.
It is worth being clear about the distinction: Ultimate Texas Hold'em is a banked casino game, you are betting against the house's hand, not competing against a table of other players for a pot.
For real multiplayer poker online, Nova Scotia residents generally use the same international poker sites covered throughout our Canadian poker sites guide, since there is no NSGC or ALC-run peer-to-peer poker room.
This is the same position as most Canadian provinces outside Ontario and Alberta, both of which run their own regulated online poker markets through AGCO and AGLC respectively.
For real multiplayer poker, most Nova Scotians play on international rooms such as GGPoker and WPT Global. Our GGPoker review and WPT Global review cover software, traffic and safety for each, and our payment methods guide walks through Interac e-transfers and other deposit options available to Nova Scotia players.
Players who prefer to deposit and play in crypto have CoinPoker, a blockchain-based room that runs on Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT alongside fiat card deposits.
Our CoinPoker review covers its game types and no-KYC standard play in detail, and our real money poker apps guide compares mobile options across every major site available to Nova Scotia players.
Poker Lotto: Atlantic Canada's Other Poker Game
Nova Scotians have one more poker-flavoured option that has nothing to do with a poker room or a poker site: Poker Lotto, a retail lottery game the Atlantic Lottery Corporation launched in February 2018 and still runs today across all four Atlantic provinces.
To play, you ask a participating retailer for a Poker Lotto ticket, choosing up to three hands per ticket.
Atlantic Lottery then draws five cards at random using an automated draw machine, and better poker hands pay bigger prizes, with instant wins of up to $10,000 and a separate nightly draw worth $100,000. It is a fun, low-stakes way to engage with poker-style odds, but it is a lottery game with a randomly dealt hand, not a game of skill against other players or the house.

Playing Responsibly in Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia runs its own Gambling Support Network, offering free, confidential support by phone, text or online chat, 24 hours a day, at 1-888-347-8888 (or 711 for TTY), separate from the national and international helplines you will see referenced on other Canadian poker sites.
If you want to step away from the casinos themselves, the Voluntary Self-Exclusion (VSE) Program covers both Casino Nova Scotia properties in Halifax and Sydney, with terms of 6 months, 1 year, 3 years or indefinitely, a simplified reinstatement process, and a rule that anyone enrolled forfeits any wins during their exclusion period.
