WSOP Circuit Toronto 2025 Wraps, Eyes Turn to Las Vegas

CANADA, April 25th, 2025 — The 2025 WSOP Circuit Toronto at Great Canadian Casino Resort, held April 10th–22nd, is over. With the champions crowned, a lot of Canadian poker players will now be looking ahead.

At this time of year, most eyes will be on the upcoming 2025 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, which starts May 27th and runs through July 16th at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas. Best known for the No Limit Hold'em world championship, the $10,000 Main Event (which kicks off on July 2nd, 2025), GGPoker aims to send over 1000 qualifiers via its Road to Vegas satellites.

Daniel Negreanu, Canada’s poker icon, announced an aggressive schedule several weeks ago. He will be chasing his eighth bracelet, adding a layer of intrigue for Canadian fans. Negreanu has played very well in 2025 so far, lasting late in some Mixed Games events and even winning tournaments. The Canadian living poker legend recently had a tweet about the 2025 WSOP.

Canadian/American Tensions and At-Home Poker Options for 2025

But politics could be a bigger part of the 2025 World Series of Poker than ever before. Donald Trump's second term in office has seen the development of American-Canadian tensions. Many Canadians have changed their spending habits to favor local buying. Furthermore, many more are alarmed by numerous and steady headlines over the last couple of months, which detail non-standard occurrences at the Canadian/American border.

Undoubtedly, many Canadian poker players will head south because there is nothing bigger than Las Vegas' World Series of Poker. But it will be interesting to see how many Canadians, not to mention members of other nations, stay home.

For Canadians opting to stay domestic, the Diamond Poker Classic (June 10th–14th, 2025) is an alternative. Casino Regina will host the event, which is a significant Canadian-based tournament on the prairies that won't require international travel. Registration will open April 29th, 2025, via casinoregina.com. The tournament comes on the heels of the Station Poker Classic, an event that ran in March.
